Family Fued “September”
Family Fued was about the stupidest show ever. Where it not for amusing morons like this, I don’t think it would have ever stayed on television.
Richard Dawson, Family Fued and two complete idiots
Maybe there really is pressure when you are on television that makes answering questions more difficult. I sure hope so, as I have never heard of an alligator spelled in only three letters.
Whats an immoral pleasure seeker?
About the most accurate eff up I have ever heard.
In the butt…
That old urban legend about making whoopee in a weird place, turns out it is true. Though they censor it, she does say “in the butt”. Check snopes.com for the full story.
Richard Simmons on Whose Line
I think it is safe to assume, yeah, he is gay.

The short story. Some guy has a stupid idea and thinks the idea is great. He then treks out to Google headquarters, and they listen to his pitch. Of course, this has a bit of internet momentum behind it in order for google to even hear his case.
According to the website, this quest of futility started on Feb 11, 2007. We have been in this for about a year now. I check in on the website, and the forums, every few days. To date, secrecy is pretty high, I am not even sure the beta testers really know what the actual idea is.

Time Machine, yeah, the whole ball of wax bothers me.
Great idea, poor implementation. Feel free to read on and post the items that piss you off about Time Machine. I am sure the list is much longer than I am able to come up with.

Things that annoy me about Mac OS X Leopard Part 2

I wrote previously about how the Finder in 10.x up was screwy in the way it dealt with long file names.
Looks like Apple almost heard me, as they fixed that bug, but only half way.
Here is how they used to deal with it, which was pretty piss poor:

And here is how it is dealt with in 10.5 Leopard:

Dear Subway Sandwiches, their response
Wednesday November 28th 2007, 10:11 pm
Filed under:
Personal
A while back I wrote an email and sent it into Subway Sandwiches. In short, myself and many of my friends are bothered with how they put the mayo on last, rather than letting it be a soggy bread barrier like it should.
You can read my original post here, along with the email I sent it.

Unison, the best newsreader for the Mac that sucks

I used to love Panic. They made great apps, designed well, and they were solid. I never jumped on their ftp bandwagon, as I use Interarchy. Audion and Unison were solid, and I used both all the time.

Things that annoy me about Mac OS X Leopard Part 1

I have no idea how many parts to this there will be. I am going to write one item per post, and yes, they will be persnickety.
Create a new folder (Command-Shift-N) on the Desktop, it will select the name so you can give it a new name. The same holds true for any folder you are in, so long as you are in icon view.
If you are in list view, it selects the name for a split second, then deselects it. This is new behavior as of 10.5. I call it a bug.

Text to speech is so good in Leopard, you can not turn it off
Thursday November 01st 2007, 10:40 pm
Filed under:
Personal
Leopard has a new text to speech voice, Fred. Fred has an issue, he never ever shuts up. Open up the speech preference pane, and assign a hot key so you can tell any selected text to speak out loud. I used control-T. It works amazingly well. With a small bump in the speaking speed, you can kick back and do other things while Fred is reading to you.
The rub? He never stops, and as far as I can tell, there is no way to make him stop talking. Select with caution, if you select an entire book of text, your computer will be talking to you for days on end. The only way I have found out of this is a logout. Maybe a force quit on Finder would do it as well.

Perhaps the best new Safari feature for developers

Apple went and did it, releasing a new Beta version of Safari.
So far, scattered reports that it is not working all that great on Windows. I have had a pretty non issue day with it in Mac OS X.

My first real crack at a PhotoShop makeover
Wednesday June 06th 2007, 11:41 pm

I have been fascinated with the work of Photoshop masters who take images and prep them for magazines like PLayboy and the like. I finally have started to take the time to train myself on how they are pulling off turning average looking women into perfect women.
I went on a hunt for a cute but in need of work girl on the internet, and came up with the below image…

Will the unlimited data plan for the iPhone scare away potential users?
Tuesday June 05th 2007, 11:19 am
Filed under:
Personal
I tend to agree with the general population out there, that the iPhone is going to be a huge hit, and people will indeed wait in line at stores to pick them up. With that in mind, I have been wondering if waiting in line is as far as those customers are going to get.
Sure, the phone is pricey, but no more than any new phone, especially a PDA style one. Yet has anyone priced out a service plan?

How is your day going? Such a stupid shallow question, like the guy at the grocery store could give a crap how my day is. My usual reply, and a submission to the Violent Acres Catch-phrase Contest:

Starting to think Violent Acres is a money making business
Friday April 27th 2007, 3:46 pm
Filed under:
Personal
A few months ago, I stumbled upon Violent Acres. It is right up my alley, where I would like to take my blog, if I had the writing style and life experiences. I read the entire blog, every post, in one sitting, and now, check up on it every day.
As I read more, it started to feel very TuckerMax to me. Meaning, I have always felt TuckerMax was nothing more than a writer making up good stories for the sake of generating traffic and in turn revenue. I did not care, as there was still value to me, I enjoyed the writing and the style of the writing. It was a fair trade.

Why I smoke, to spite those who know what’s best for me
Sunday April 22nd 2007, 4:49 am
Filed under:
Personal
Robyn Blumner has 795 firggin words up on people who throw cigarettes out the window of their cars. I suppose I can agree, it is a bit fucked up to toss a smoke out the window. Seriously though, do I really need all 795 words to figure that out.
It is getting harder and harder to smoke. Banned in bars, banned in parks, soon to be banned in cars, and in some towns, getting very close to being banned in your own home. So yeah, I am going to toss them out the window, just to piss you off, because it is the last thing I can do to assert my right to do to myself whatever the hell I want to do.

A while back, there was this female blogger whose vagina was used so infrequently, it crusted over and sealed shut. No longer able to get dicked, she became bitter and fragile, turning her attention to blogging about marketing.
I don’t know all of the details, but a quick summary would be, readers disagreed with her writing. This is often the case when you put your opinions online, and Kathy Sierra freaked out when those disagreements got a little hostile. If you are going to make yourself a public figure, be prepared for anything and everything, otherwise, blog anonymously.

Don Imus near tame compared to ‘Honorable’ Judge Gary W. Velie
Thursday April 19th 2007, 9:37 pm
Filed under:

You think Don Imus screwed up, that’s nothing compared to what a court judge can get away with. To quote: (emphasis mine)
The Commission reprimanded a judge who
1) had had an ex parte meeting with a minor who was the subject of a proceeding over which the judge was presiding;
2) had stated to an attorney in open court and in front of a female court reporter and female clerk that the attorney looked like he had been “jacking off a bobcat in a phone booth;”

Why Cd’s are always going to be better than online downloads
Wednesday April 18th 2007, 11:27 pm
Filed under:
Personal
I am ripping some of my CD collection into iTunes, and came across this Dinosaur Jr. CD. It is self titled, dated 1985, black and white single page insert. It says “Recorded at Chris Dixon’s House”. It’s got a few peoples home addresses on it, and is on some obscure record label.
Sure, one day, this stuff may make it into some online store, but you will never get the awesome nostalgic feeling I just got, while holding this physical CD in my hand. It is a collectible, no matter how old your binary files get, they will never be collectable.
