Top 10 dissapointments for 2005

New year is on the way, time for my list of bug fixes that were not addressed this year. Some are tech related, others are leaning a little on the “worldly” side of things. None of them are research based, just my opinions.
1) Still no cure for balding. Yeah, I have been waiting this one out my entire life. I mean, how friggin hard can it be to take some hair, grow up a batch of it, and graft it onto someone body? Trying to re-grow hair that once exists is just the wrong approach. We can grow skin from cells, why can we not plop some hair on it as well?
2) Cancer. Not so much looking for a cure for this one, as I know we are working pretty hard on this. This is one of those cases where corruption in the medical industry just may be a good thing. The financial implications of dealing with cancer are huge. This is a money making adventure for the medical industry, so I know they want it more than any victim of cancer. If we can not cure it, we need to at least pin down what causes it, so we can prevent it.

GoDaddy sensors Safari to undermine Apple

How is that for a sensationalized title to grab your attention? I pondered to toss in as much wit as I could with a reference to “whose your daddy”, or perhaps just a succinct honest title, in the end, I went with a point proving one. In some ways, Mac users kick ass, in others, they do things that just make no sense to me.
Yes, the title is a misleading, and in this case, intentional. Let’s start with the background, so you can follow along, then we can move into the more specific details.
There is a 21 page thread over at the Apple discussion forums, Page not viewable in Safari. To the best of my knowledge, this hit the news sites two days ago, and piqued my curiosity enough to know it was something I could probably figure out. It was near 5AM when I read about it, and took until today for me to get into the meat of what was going on. *Forum has been locked by Apple.
Around November 24th, many users of GoDaddy.com’s “Domain Forwarding & Masking” feature, ended up with websites that were nothing more than a blank page. It is now the 8th of December, and why it took this long to get someone to figure out what was happening, that’s beyond me. Either way, enough people were experiencing it that it become newsworthy.
At about the time it became newsworthy, it also became a finger pointing issue. Mac users were strong in that it was a GoDaddy issue. GoDaddy was pretty firm in their stance it was an Apple issue. In both cases, all this finger pointing was going on based on nothing more than anecdotal evidence. For this, I blame the news sites for not doing any research whatsoever; linking to a forum post with a sensationalistic title on your “news” site is in no way news, let alone solid reporting. I also blame GoDaddy, for pushing a tech memo out to its support reps that had unarguably false data in it. I further blame their “Office of The President” for also spewing out false data based on no research at all. In this case, I do not really blame the Mac users, they are end users, all they know is that their sites are blank, and GoDaddy is the common thread.

Generation @retarded

Generation X, that’s the one I fall into, apparently there is a generation Y as well. Yesterday, I learned the newest generation has been coined “Generation @”. As much as I want to think this is a cool thing, I don’t. Sure, the @ symbol has some history, history that certainly holds a warm and gooey spot in my heart. I just don’t want to give up the @ symbol to a generation of retards.
I am herby renaming generation @ to generation @retarded. And one day, when someone stops sitting on retarded.com, I will feel for their pain for all the stupid emails they get to i@retarded.com. I despise the @retarded generation, they can be summed up in simple categories.
1) Ignorant
2) Careless
3) MySpace
4) Complacent
Let’s not take my word for it, I can explain by example. I was shown a MySpace profile of a sixteen year old’s dribble about how upset she was that two of her friends were killed in a car accident. This happened in my town, a few weeks ago. Don’t get me wrong, death sucks, and I am all too familiar with it, but this is just where all four of my steps come into play.

Tanya Chua
Heard a new artist named Tanya Chua. Either my google skills are totally weak, or she is just really underground. There is a ton of chatter about her, just no official website, and no where I can see to order any of her music.
If anyone has any relevant links, drop them into the comments please.

Poisoning Google Analytics

I seem to be finding more and more wrong with Google Analytics. It’s not that I am finding much wrong with the reports, it’s more stuff on the back end, things that just should not be.
As my previous post mentioned, there is the common name SSL issue, and today, I find a simple way to poison any Analytics user I desire. The bummer about all this, is none of these issues were a problem when Urchin was running the show.
