Finally, a real security hole in OS X

In case you have been living under a turd, or are a Windows user, Safari struck by Zip security warning. In a nut, someone managed to shove some special meta data into a zip archive, and when downloaded and auto unzipped, it is ran. This fires up your terminal, and could be any command a malicious person wanted to run.
It’s particularly neat, at least I think. The real problem with this is it can be shoved into a meta refresh on a website and downloaded automatically. Or, worse, I have heard you can embed it in a email and mail.app will happily execute it as well.

An hour later, and I am no better off than I started. I just want to be able to find .torrent files, drop them in a directory, and have them downloaded and seeded. Too much to ask? Apparently so.
First, I tried to do run the source, as doing this from the CLI is actually preferable to me. So, off to the Index of /dl I go, and get the tarball.
OS X 10.3 to 10.4
http://www.bittorrent.com/dl/BitTorrent-4.4.0.tar.gz
tar -xvf BitTorrent-4.4.0.tar
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

It is always nice to wake up in the morning to fucked up water. I have no idea what the cause was, but all the water coming out of our faucets was blowout brown. The water district was pretty on top of it, and by 10 AM or so, they had someone out to deal with it. Their solution, purge the fire hydrants.
I don’t now about you, but that just does not sit well with me at all. How did the shit brown get into the pipes in the first place, what was it, was it bad I drank some of it before I noticed? Anyway, screw tap water from this point forward, it’s all filter or dehydration for me.

They are everywhere, I would wager more than 90% of all Windows based computers connected to the internet have some form of virus, spyware, or malware running havoc on them. Hell, I consider myself somewhat of a computer expert, and even my Virtual PC install is infected in one way or another. I don’t really know how, or where, just that I trip the alert bells when I hit my websites with Virtual PC, so I know there is a nimbda or four working it’s magic. Not that I care, that is the point of me running Windows in a virtual machine, so I can do as I please and have no repercussions.
By now, you should get the idea that I am a Macintosh user. By and large, I live a worry free computing life, putting little thought towards the state of my computer in regards to it’s health. It just works, it’s not something I waste brain cycles on, and I like it that way.
What strikes me as downright amazing, is the relative lack of all out destruction the past years crop of viruses have brought forth. I honestly can not remember anything wide spread that went as far as to wipe your drive of all data. Perhaps this is to a point, as there is nothing more than notoriety in that type of virus kit.
