I don’t like you reddit and digg, not anymore

It’s getting freaking lame, damn near impossible to get anything on either of those sites that anyone will see. Pefect example, I a a huge fan of The Straight Dope. Someone notices there were no posts to them on reddit, so now, once a day, there is a main page headline.

The screwy part is, I have posted those links before, and they get nowhere, maybe a few karma points, and i am long lost. Why? Because the beginning users have all the karma, so they count the most.

Same for Digg, but they have their own rooted issues as well.

At any rate, why does any of this have to be based on karma at all. Does anyone believe in that crap these days? Kill off the karma engine, move posts up and down based on votes, and call it a day. Track who votes on those things so we can still mark people as friends, but basing anything on karam is basing a system on luck and in those who have nothing better to do all day long.

I do spend a lot of time in the “new” or “upcoming” pages, and I do vote, and there are some really good things in there, and they get lost in the mess. The ones that make it, those who have people make sensationalistic titles, assuming they have enough karma to even get to the front pages anyway.

Whatv!
