Around $80.00 of my phone bill this month was for text messaging. Sprint PCS charges me $0.15 cents per message! So, I have this Treo phone, and it has a keyboard on it, you would think the moron who sold it to me may just want to suggest I buy a text messaging plan, ya know, considering it has a keyboard on it.
What the fuck though, I can send a million emails out for free, why is this text messaging thing so mysterious and expensive. I could set up a SMS gateway with some old hardware and Linux and it could handle a few million messages a day for sub $300.00 in hardware. Can I alter the gateway host on my phone to take advantage of this? Hell no.
Topping all this off, there was a 43.00 random charge on my credit card bill, I am used to the over $100.00 fees they get me once a month for. I called Sprint, and they have no record of the charge. So, I now get to waste a few hours and more of my minutes on the phone with Visa to investigate. Turns out, Sprint stores and Sprint cell phone contracts all use “Sprint PCS” on the credit card statement. Now that’s fucking intelligent.
