Things that annoy me about Mac OS X Leopard Part 3

Time Machine, yeah, the whole ball of wax bothers me.

Great idea, poor implementation. Feel free to read on and post the items that piss you off about Time Machine. I am sure the list is much longer than I am able to come up with.

  • Can only “Back Up Now” by adding the Time Machine Application to your dock.
  • No way to back up only specific folders, you have to manually exclude every single directory you do not want to backup.
  • Applications will launch off the back up drive.
  • The on/off button in System Prefs is stupid.
  • Can not boot from backup.
  • Need OS X installer CD to restore you data, not a “hot backup”.
  • Is not incremental. One email to Entourage and thats 400MB of data that has to be backed up all over again. One pixel change to a 500MB .psd file, and thats 500MB to copy over again.
  • Backs up active files, such as downloads and files in the process of being saved.

I assure you, these issues will not be fixed for a long time. Tru incremental backups, maybe not ever. I guess good news for SuperDuper! and CCC.
